The First Purge serves as a prequel to the
Purge franchise, exploring the origins of the annual night of lawlessness known
as “The Purge.” To test a new theory of crime reduction,
the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) initiate a 12-hour experiment in
which all crime—including murder—is legal on Staten Island, New York.Marketed
as a social experiment to let citizens release their aggression, the truth
behind the Purge is far more sinister: it's a government-sanctioned method of
targeting poor and minority communities under the guise of maintaining order.As
violence escalates and outside forces manipulate the event, a group of everyday
citizens must fight back—not only to survive, but to expose the horrifying
truth behind the Purge’s creation.
