"Maleficent"
is a fantasy film released in 2014 by Disney, starring
Angelina Jolie as the title character. The movie reimagines the classic
Sleeping Beauty tale from the perspective of the villain, Maleficent.Maleficent
is a powerful fairy who lives in the peaceful Moors, a magical forest realm. As
a young fairy, she falls in love with a human boy named Stefan. But when Stefan
betrays her in order to become king, Maleficent is heartbroken and full of
rage.To get revenge, she curses Stefan’s newborn daughter, Aurora, saying she
will fall into a deep sleep on her 16th birthday after
pricking her finger on a spinning wheel. But as Aurora grows, Maleficent
secretly watches over her and starts to care for the girl. Over time, she
realizes that she loves Aurora like a daughter and tries to undo the curse. In
the end, it is Maleficent’s true love, not a prince’s kiss, that breaks the
curse — showing that love doesn’t always have to be romantic.
