In the future, war
has plunged the world back into a new dark age. The twelve districts are ruled
by the Capitol, which demands that each district send one boy and one girl to
participate in the annual Hunger Games — a brutal competition broadcast on live
television where 24 youths must fight to the death until
only one remains. When Prim, the younger sister of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer
Lawrence) from District 12, is chosen as a tribute,
Katniss volunteers to take her place. She is sent to compete alongside Peeta
Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), the male tribute from her district, while her close
friend Gale (Liam Hemsworth) stays behind, determined to help her in any way he
can. Caught between humanity and survival, life and love, Katniss must fight
her way through the deadly arena — with one ultimate goal: to win the Hunger
Games and return home alive.
