“The Crown of India” chronicles the author’s 19-day, 19-night journey through Jammu and Kashmir, the northernmost region of India, traveling in true backpacker style.

During the first part of the trip, the author is joined by Thai travel companions met through an online forum. The book weaves together nature-based adventures—camel rides along the Silk Road routes, horseback rides through gardens, and visits to lakes and mountains—with cultural explorations of temples and ancient palaces, touching on Vajrayana Buddhism, the Dalai Lama, and revered Rinpoches.

The journey also includes trekking with local guides, staying in guesthouses, wandering through villages, and experiencing the everyday lives of local people up close. Told in a relaxed, accessible style—unflashy and easy to read—the narrative is enriched with informative tidbits about places and their histories, offering enjoyment, inspiration, and meaningful insight all at once.
