The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is the first children’s novel (also enjoyed by adults) by John Boyne, an Irish writer born in Dublin in 1971. He was inspired to write this story and completed the first draft in just two and a half days, barely sleeping at all. Upon publication, the book made history on the Irish book charts by holding the number-one position for an extraordinary 57 weeks. It also became a bestseller in many other countries, and Miramax later purchased the film rights, releasing the movie adaptation in 2008.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a story drawn from the pages of history, told through the eyes of Bruno, an innocent nine-year-old boy who is forced to leave his home and move to a new house that is completely different from the one he knew. He struggles to understand where this new place is and what is really happening around him. The author believes that the best way to enjoy this book is to read it without knowing too much beforehand, allowing yourself to become immersed in the mystery hidden between the lines. For this reason, the back cover of the first edition revealed only this: if you read this book, you will embark on a journey with a nine-year-old boy named Bruno, and before long, you and Bruno will arrive at a fence. Such a fence exists in many places around the world. We hope you will never have to encounter it.
