ความเป็นอินเดียที่เคยผ่านตา หรือเฉียดเข้าใกล้อยู่บ้างของคนไทยที่ยังไม่เคยไปเหยียบอินเดียมาจริงๆ คงเป็น 'อาบัง' คนขายถั่วและคนขายโรตีนั่นเอง

 พวกเขาขายถั่วและทอดโรตีไปพร้อมกับรอยยิ้ม โดยที่เราก็เก็บความสงสัยอยู่ในใจว่า ประเทศอินเดียมีหน้าตาเป็นยังไง แล้วที่โน่นเขากินโรตีกับถั่วเป็นอาหารหลักหรือยังไง แถมเรื่องราวของอินเดียที่ได้ยินมา มีทั้งสกปรก ฝุ่นเยอะ และระวังโดนแขกหลอก สรุปสั้นๆ คือไม่น่าไป และ 'ไม่คูล'

ก่อนจะไปอินเดีย ใบพัดก็คิดว่าตัวเอง 'ไม่คูล' แต่เมื่อต้องไปเที่ยวอินเดียเพียงลำพัง ใบพัดจึงได้เรียนรู้ว่าความคูลที่แท้จริงน่ะมันเป็นอย่างไร เพราะแค่ประกาศว่า 'จะไปอินเดียคนเดียว' ใบพัดก็กลายเป็นคนเจ๋งๆในสายตาคนอื่นได้แล้ว แต่นั่นเป็นเพียงจุดเริ่มต้นเท่านั้น ที่จะเปลี่ยนมุมมองที่มีต่อตัวเอง

และเช่นเดียวกับอินเดีย ถ้าไม่ไปเพราะมัวแต่กลัวโดนแขกหลอก ก็คงไม่มีทางได้ทำความรู้จักกับ 'อาบัง' และเริ่มเรียนรู้ว่า ภาษาอังกฤษของคนอินเดียต้องตั้งใจฟังแค่ไหน ภูเขาหิมะที่นั่นหนาวยะเยือกเพียงใด ธรรมะขององค์ดาไลลามะจับใจขนาดไหน และอินเดียสะท้อนภาพตัวตนของเราออกมายังไงบ้างในสถานการณ์ห่วยแตกที่สุด ใบพัดเล่าเรื่องอินเดียของเขาได้อย่างสนุก แม้ไม่เท่แต่แอบมีข้อคิด ไม่หล่อมาแต่ก็คลี่คลายในตัวเอง ถ้าคุณได้อ่านก็คงจะได้รู้ว่า อินเดียนั้น 'คูล' กว่าที่คิดจริงๆ...

Who would want to follow in the footsteps of a naïve kid who keeps getting duped?)But it will almost certainly make you want to get up and do something strange—something outside the routine of your orderly life.Perhaps you’ll stop being timid and buy a ticket to India(Hey… how did that happen?),or perhaps you’ll simply lie on your back, staring at the ceiling,admiring your own timidity for two hours a day.At the very least, you’ll feel an irresistible itch—that peculiar itch of the naïve kid—as if it were a contagious disease after all.
