เรื่องราวของเด็กหนุ่มที่ชื่อ พาย พาเทล ชาวอินเดีย นับถือศาสนา 3 ศาสนาในเวลาเดียวกัน คือ คริสต์ อิสลาม และฮินดู ซึ่งที่บ้านมีสวนสัตว์เป็นของตัวเอง แต่ด้วยเหตุผลบางอย่างทำให้จำเป็นต้องขายสัตว์เหล่านั้นให้กับสวนสัตว์ของเมริกา โดยใช้เรือญี่ปุ่นในการขนบรรดาสัตว์นานาชนิดข้ามฟ้าข้ามทะเล แต่แล้วกลับเกิดเหตุการณ์ซึ่งทำให้เรือต้องอัปปางจมทะเล แต่ พาย รอดจากเรือล่ม โดยติดอยู่ที่เรือชูชีพลำหนึ่ง เขาใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในเรือชูชีพอยู่หลายวันจนในที่สุดเรือก็เข้าสู้ชายฝั่งแม็กซิโก จากนั้นมีชาวญี่ปุ่นมาสัมภาษณ์ พาย ว่าทำไมเรือถึงล่ม และเขารอดมาได้อย่างไร พาย เล่าว่า เรือชูชีพลำนั้น มีทั้ง เสือเบงกอ ม้าลาย ลิงอุรังอุตัง และหมาไฮยีน่า แต่คนญี่ปุ่นกลับไม่เชื่อเรื่องที่ พาย เล่าโดยอ้างว่า มันเกินจริง และอัศจรรย์เกินไป พายจึงเล่าอีกเรื่องที่คล้ายๆกันแต่ดูธรรมดากว่า สมเหตุสมผลมากกว่า เรื่องไหนจริง เรื่องไหนหลอก เกิดอะไรขึ้นในเรือชูชีพลำนั้น พาย เอาชีวิตรอดมาได้อย่างไร
 
   
Description En :
After deciding to sell their zoo in India and move to Canada, Santosh and Gita Patel board a freighter with their sons and a few remaining animals. Tragedy strikes when a terrible storm sinks the ship, leaving the Patels' teenage son, Pi (Suraj Sharma), as the only human survivor. However, Pi is not alone; a fearsome Bengal tiger has also found refuge aboard the lifeboat.
