The overcast skies, drizzle, and mist over the British Isles do not create a gloomy atmosphere. This isolated island is far from forlorn. Its past, present, and future have continually undergone intense change. Beneath the gray clouds lies vivid color, with news constantly making headlines. Just imagine James Bond shaking hands with Harry Potter—enough to send tremors around the world.
A country filled with heroes can be a headache of its own: one wonders whether the heroes will split into factions, whether they can coexist, and what happens if opposing heroes refuse to get along—division and conflict may follow. Yet a country with no heroes at all feels equally troubling, as if lacking leadership, leaving people to turn to one another for something to worship and rely on.
As evening approaches in the chill of early winter, the air turns biting cold. Dim streetlights cast a soft glow on the glass fronts of shuttered shops, conjuring the image of a heroine strolling aimlessly along the pavement. It brings me back to the beginning of the journey, when I intended to walk in mindful contemplation, observing all things with a neutral heart, avoiding bias by “neither taking sides nor opposing.” Whatever arose in thought or speech, I tried to let it emerge as raw feeling, true to the mood of that moment. The result is what you see here—Thai mixed with Western, never meant as a comparison of winners and losers.
